Karnataka High Court Pulls Up Lamborghini Driver for Traffic Violations, Suggests Street-Sweeping Remark

The Karnataka High Court recently came down strongly on a Lamborghini driver accused of violating traffic rules, while indicating that it may quash the criminal case against him if he undertakes meaningful community service.
The matter was heard by Justice M. Nagaprasanna, who was considering a petition seeking to quash an FIR registered for reckless driving and use of a retrofitted silencer that allegedly exceeded permissible noise limits.
During the hearing, the court questioned the nature of the community service the accused was willing to perform. In a sharp and sarcastic remark, the judge said, “You will go in your Lamborghini, sweep the streets, come back in your Lamborghini,” highlighting concerns over whether such service would be genuine or merely symbolic.
The driver’s counsel submitted that the accused was willing to undertake community service and suggested that he could educate school students about traffic rules. However, the court appeared unconvinced, noting the irony of a person accused of violating traffic laws teaching others about them.
The State, on the other hand, proposed alternative forms of service such as planting saplings. After hearing both sides, the court orally indicated that it would pass orders to quash the case, subject to appropriate conditions, and dispose of the matter. A detailed written order is still awaited.
The case stems from a December 2025 incident, where a video of a Lamborghini being driven at high speed during a convoy went viral on social media. Based on the footage, police registered a suo motu FIR alleging rash and negligent driving.
The defence argued that no accident occurred and that the FIR was based solely on the viral video. It also stated that the driver had already paid fines related to the modified silencer and had since rectified the issue.
The court’s final decision will depend on the detailed order, which is expected to specify the exact nature of the community service to be performed.
