Chief Justice Stresses Personal Responsibility and Professional Integrity
Chief Justice of India Justice Surya Kant advised newly inducted Advocates-on-Record (AoRs) not to outsource AI petition drafting or from any other external parties, stressing that every pleading filed before the Supreme Court reflects the advocate’s own professional judgment and responsibility.
Speaking at the AoR induction ceremony held on April 16, the CJI described their qualification as a major professional milestone achieved through discipline and hard work. He said the role of an AoR goes beyond procedural compliance and carries significant ethical accountability before the Court.
The Chief Justice emphasized that advocates must personally read every brief, verify facts carefully, and ensure that legal grounds are properly framed before filing petitions. He cautioned that no AoR should file matters blindly based only on instructions from other counsel or rely on AI-generated drafts without verification.
He further underlined that punctuality, clarity in submissions, honesty, and respect for the institution are essential qualities for every Advocate-on-Record. According to the CJI, credibility in the legal profession begins from the very first day of practice.
Concluding his address, Justice Surya Kant reminded the new inductees that AoRs are officers of the Court and must uphold the trust placed in them through diligence and professional integrity in every matter.
