Mamata Banerjee Raises Allegations Of Violence And Police Inaction Before Court

Trinamool Congress chief and former West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee appeared before the Calcutta High Court on Thursday during the hearing of a PIL related to alleged post-poll violence in the state.
The matter was heard after the Trinamool Congress approached the court alleging widespread violence and attacks on party workers following the 2026 Assembly election results.
During the hearing, Mamata Banerjee alleged that large-scale violence had taken place in different parts of West Bengal after the elections. She also claimed that police authorities were not allowing FIRs to be registered in several cases.
Keeping her statement unchanged, Mamata Banerjee told the court, “West Bengal is not a bulldozer state.” She further alleged that bulldozer action had taken place in some areas after the polls.
The Calcutta High Court post-poll violence PIL was heard by a Division Bench led by Chief Justice HC Sujoy Paul and Justice Parthasarathi Sen. The petition claimed that several Trinamool Congress workers were allegedly attacked and forced to leave their homes because of their political affiliation.
Mamata Banerjee reached the court wearing a lawyer’s gown along with senior TMC leaders and advocates. Her appearance drew significant political attention outside the courtroom as slogans were raised during the proceedings.
The Calcutta High Court post-poll violence PIL has intensified political debate in West Bengal after the recent Assembly elections, in which the BJP formed the government in the state for the first time.
