Arvind Kejriwal Moves Delhi High Court Seeking Recusal Of Justice Swarana Kanta Sharma In Liquor Policy Case

Kejriwal is likely to appear before the Court and argue the recusal plea himself.

Aam Aadmi Party leader and former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has approached the Delhi High Court seeking the recusal of Justice Swarana Kanta Sharma from hearing the liquor policy matter.

The application has been filed in connection with the revision petition moved by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), which challenges the trial court’s order discharging Kejriwal, Manish Sisodia and other accused in the case.

Kejriwal is expected to appear before the Court and argue the recusal application in person.

The case pertains to alleged irregularities in the Delhi excise policy, which has been under judicial scrutiny. Earlier, the trial court had discharged all accused persons, following which the CBI approached the High Court challenging the order.

At present, Justice Swarana Kanta Sharma is hearing the matter and examining the validity of the trial court’s discharge order.

The development brings attention to the principles governing judicial recusal and fairness in adjudication, particularly in high-profile cases involving public officials.
