Court Dismisses Farmers’ Pleas Against Jewar Airport Land Acquisition

The Allahabad High Court has upheld the land acquisition for the expansion of the Noida International Airport at Jewar. The ruling clears a major legal hurdle for the project and allows the next phases of development to continue.
A Division Bench of Justice Mahesh Chandra Tripathi and Justice Kunal Ravi Singh dismissed a batch of petitions filed by farmers and landowners. The petitions challenged the acquisition of land for phases 2 and 3 of the airport expansion.
The petitioners had raised objections regarding the legality of the acquisition process. In addition, they sought protection for their residential plots and raised concerns about compensation.
However, the Court upheld the acquisition proceedings. At the same time, it directed the authorities to ensure that the farmers’ Aabadi land and residential houses are safeguarded during the expansion work.
Major Relief for YEIDA and Noida International Airport Project
The ruling comes as a major relief for the Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority (YEIDA) and the Uttar Pradesh government. The decision strengthens the legal foundation of the Jewar airport project, which is being developed as one of India’s largest aviation hubs.
The Court found no sufficient grounds to interfere with the land acquisition process. Consequently, it effectively allowed the authorities to move ahead with the planned expansion phases.
This development is expected to accelerate infrastructure work linked to cargo, logistics, connectivity, and future commercial zones around the airport.
Why This Judgment Matters
The judgment is significant because the Noida International Airport is a key infrastructure project for Uttar Pradesh. Moreover, once completed, it is expected to boost regional connectivity, trade, and investment in the NCR region.
With the High Court dismissing the pleas, the expansion project now moves forward with stronger legal backing.
