The Central government on Wednesday appointed Justice Lisa Gill as the Chief Justice of the Andhra Pradesh High Court.

The Justice Lisa Gill Chief Justice Andhra Pradesh High Court appointment will take effect from April 25, 2026.

The Ministry of Law & Justice stated,

“In exercise of the power conferred by clause (1) of Article 217 of the Constitution of India, the President is pleased to appoint Smt. Justice Lisa Gill, Judge of the Andhra Pradesh High Court, to be Chief Justice of the Andhra Pradesh High Court with effect from 25.04.2026.”

Justice Gill will take charge after Chief Justice Dhiraj Singh Thakur retires on April 24.

Last month, the Collegium transferred her early to the Andhra Pradesh High Court.

The transfer followed the Supreme Court Collegium’s new transition policy.

Under this policy, incoming Chief Justices join early and understand court administration before formally assuming office.

On February 26, the Collegium approved Justice Gill’s transfer and elevation.

The court stated that the move would ensure a smooth leadership transition.

Justice Gill studied law at Panjab University and later completed her LLM there.

She enrolled as an advocate in 1990 and practiced at the Punjab and Haryana High Court.

Her practice covered criminal, civil, service, revenue, and constitutional matters.

She also represented the Union Territory of Chandigarh and several boards and corporations.

The High Court elevated her as a judge on March 31, 2014.
